Encouraging Healthy Ovulation to Support Fertility

This is one of a 4-part series on the phases of the menstrual cycle.

While I’ve posted before about how to support ovulation during your Qi phase in more physical ways, this series is about the energetic of the phases of the cycle.

THE QI PHASE

The qi phase of your menstrual occurs around the time of ovulation and a few days after, approximately days 12-15.

Qi is associated with the element of Wood and the Spring season, and is all about tenacity, determination, drive and penetration.

This energy is about doing what you need to do to get the job done. If you think about tree roots growing underneath the soil, they get to where they need to go to get what they need to thrive. They don’t care if there’s a sidewalk in the way. They’re going to bust through it.

They are purposeful and that’s the energy of the liver.

Healthy liver. Healthy wood energy.

Most of us have livers that are so taxed and depleted and burdened by the day to day demands of life that the energy in our body becomes stuck or stagnant. As a result, we may feel stagnant in our life, overwhelmed when we need to do something. This is why I have all of my fertility patients do a significant liver cleanse, so that our liver and the energy in our body can have direction and directedness, penetrating clarity.

This is what is needed during ovulation.

Wood energy that is dysfunctional can manifest in a few ways. The first is a feeling of being really stressed out all the time, having a short fuse, feeling like maybe you’re always running around but never quite getting anything accomplished. Feeling like life is all work and no play.

Because we live in such a driven, work-focused society, our wood energy tends to be fairly activated, usually overly-activated. Or you might feel stressed and agitated, and have occasional bursts of frustration or even rage. While this does result in moving and clearing out that stuck energy, it’s often not the healthiest way to go about doing it.

Alternately, stagnant or depleted wood energy can manifest as a complete lack of motivation, inability to make a decision about the direction you want your life to take… depression. Feeling like you don’t want to do anything. It can feel like your life is at a standstill while the world turns around you.

The energetic that we focus on during the Qi phase is that your energy can move unrestrained, coursing throughout your beautiful body. And that you are able to move though the world in this same way, unrestrained, unguarded. Trusting that every step is a step forward, in the right direction, on the right path. Being decisive about your choices, because within you, there’s an assuredness and a knowing that you are divinely guided.

Both my Fertile Moon Soak and my Fertile Moon Tea were formulated specifically to support women during ovulation and the Qi Phase of her cycle. Use both on cycle days 12-16.
